January 7, 2009

MORRIS -- The Plainfield North High School girls basketball team had no offensive rebounds and did not attempt a 3-point shot during Tuesday's game against Morris.

Nonetheless, the Tigers posted a 48-38 win over the Redskins in Southwest Prairie Conference play.

North shot very well, making 19-of-31 for a 61.3 percent showing.

Junior Kendra Lumpkin led North (12-3, 6-1) with 18 points and 4 rebounds. Senior Takeya Green finished with 12 points and 4 boards for the Tigers, who led 15-7 after one quarter.

But a big second-quarter effort by Morris (7-6, 2-3) helped the Redskins to a 20-19 halftime lead.

However, junior Kayleigh Blaney hit two key baskets in the third quarter to help North to a 32-25 lead entering the fourth quarter.

"Oswego is the type of team that can run off unanswered points in a hurry," Minooka coach Ray Liberatore said. "So if you don't take care of the basketball, they can make some runs against you.

"This was a tough loss, but we need to bounce back to play a very good Oswego East team on Friday."
