Lockport's Saginus named all-Big East

November 8, 2008

MILWAUKEE -- Former Lockport High School cross-country standout Kyle Saginus has continued his success at Marquette University.

Saginus eraned all-Big East honors at the Big East Cross Country Championships with a 12th-place finish in a time of 24:56. His effort helped the Golden Eagles finish seventh.

"It was a beautiful race by Kyle, who ran very smart," coach Mike Nelson said. "Around a mile, he was in the 30's and came through at the 5K mark in about 20th place. Over the last two miles, he worked really well to get past some guys and finish strong."

Saginus is the first Marquette male to earn all-Big East honors and the first to claim all-conference honors since Brent Des Roches did so in 2004 in Conference USA.

In the women's race, Lincoln-Way East graduate Amanda Beggs helped Marquette to a seventh-place finish, taking 52nd overall.
