A good night for JCA, Scheibe
JOLIET — According to Joliet Catholic Academy volleyball coach Christine Scheibe, it was like any other night. But it was another strong night for junior outside hitter Alyssa Warren.
Warren led JCA with 7 kills and 5 digs Tuesday and also contributed 9 points as the host Angels eased to a 25-10, 25-6 East Suburban Catholic Conference victory over St. Joseph -- in the process, picking up Scheibe the 250th win of her varsity career.
"It was just another game," said Scheibe, who guided the Angels to the 2003 Class AA state title, a 2005 Class AA fourth-place trophy and a 2006 Class AA third-place trophy. "My record is really insignificant compared to the goals this team wants to accomplish.
"I'm just thankful to work in an environment that supports this team, supports volleyball and supports what the girls are doing."
In front of a vocal student following, JCA (13-1, 3-1) responded to a week-long layoff and a loss to nationally ranked Benet as junior outside Annemarie Hickey added 6 kills and 5 digs and junior libero Stephanie Keca chalked up 11 points.
Butler University-bound senior setter Gina Vera registered 9 assists and 6 points, while junior middle Claire Randich notched 3 blocks and 3 kills. Senior Brittany Budimier came off the bench and offered a strong effort on the right side with fellow senior Katie Hickey.
"We were a little rusty at first," said Scheibe, whose Angels will play five matches this weekend at the Nike Challenge. "But Alyssa Warren picked us up both offensively and defensively with a strong match."
Becca Bograd delivered 10 assists for the Injuns, who were coming off a 25-15, 25-23 loss to Mother McAuley in the title game of the Rich East Invitational.
"We came in and took care of business and came out 5-0 in the conference," Lemont coach Chris Zogata said.
For South, Paige Boivin provided 19 digs, Bianca Sanchez had 14 digs and Alexis O'Boyle authored 17 assists. Stephanie Murray led the way at the net with 10 kills and 5 blocks.
"This was a terrific high school volleyball match," Wilmington coach Dan Drye said. "Dwight is a great team, but we played really well, our passing was excellent and it was a great win for our team."
For Dwight (23-6, 5-1), Carly Perschnick led with 12 kills, 5 digs and 3 blocks and Kolby Hoffman had 9 kills and 24 assists. Chaney Tambling served 16 points, Gracyn Leskanich notched 6 digs and Alicia Runyon added 5 digs.

"We started slow, but were able to pick it up and get the win in the first game," JT coach Al Mart said. "We were much more aggressive in the second game. I liked how we were able to close out the match in a positive manner."
Plainfield North 25-25, Romeoville 13-12 -- The host Tigers (15-7, 5-2) snapped a two-match losing streak in the Southwest Prairie behind 7 kills, 4 blocks and 6 points by Sarah Scott and 7 kills, 5 digs and 7 points from Kylee Baker.
