Plainfield South downs Minooka


October 1, 2008

JOLIET — Chris Tejada, Nick Skrip and Noe Flores scored goals Tuesday to power Plainfield South High School to a 3-0 boys soccer victory over Minooka.

Antonio Rodriguez added an assist. Wojiech Gacek recorded his ninth shutout for the Cougars (6-8-1, 2-2) in the Southwest Prairie Conference victory.

For Minooka (1-12, 1-4), Andy Pieczynski made 6 saves.

Boys soccer
Romeoville 1, Morris 0 -- At Morris, Gustavo Moreno scored the lone goal in the Southwest Prairie game. Luis Castillo made 3 saves for the Spartans (3-6, 1-2).

Coal City 1, Reed-Custer 0 -- At Coal City, Trevor Simonds scored the only goal in the Interstate Eight Conference victory. Kevin Allen had the assist for the Coalers. Ryan Kunz registered the shutout, stopping 10 shots. Reed-Custer's Brian Hedrick made 7 saves.

Men's soccer
JJC 7, Waubonsee 0 -- At Joliet, Eric Razo scored 2 goals for the Wolves (7-3) in the nonconference win. Adding goals were Arturo Rios, Ahmad Rachid, Matt Philbin, Bryce Anderson and Frank Fankham. David Hudson had 2 assists and Shaun Etherington made 3 saves for the shutout.
Boys golf
Providence Catholic 151, Marian Catholic 162 -- At Lincoln Oaks, Tele Korbakes shot a 35 for the Celtics (13-0) in the nonconference victory. Bob Glynn shot a 38, Tom Kleiza fired a 39 and Karl Schramm also had a 39.

Plainfield South 163, Romeoville 211 -- At Wedgewood, the Cougars' Ryan Keating was medalist with a 37. Devin Carter carded a 40, Zack Bennis had a 42 and Bryan Tomac shot a 44.

Coal City wins -- At Cinder Ridge, the Coalers shot a 167, while Reed-Custer had a 172 and Seneca a 207. Coal City's Adam Banks and Logan Murray, along with the Comets' Tyler Ricketts shared medalist honors by shooting 41. Other scorers for Coal City were Jake VanDuyne (42) and Brandon Watson (43).

Reed-Custer's Cory Turner fired a 43, while Marc Hrpcha and Jake Evans had 44s.

Plainfield Central 173, Romeoville 219 -- At Mistwood, the Wildcats' Aaron Rigney was medalist with a 41. John Michalik had a 43, Evan Gallegos shot a 44 and E.J. Luna had a 45.

For Romeoville, Jordan Pemble shot a 46, Anthony Faraci had a 57, while Brian Weber, Eric Schmidt and T.J. Esquivel turned in 58s.

Girls golf
Rosary 184, Lemont 185 -- At Bliss Creek, the Indians' Regan Menconi was medalist with a 40. Others scoring for Lemont (6-5) were Samantha Reddy (45), Taylor Dunn (49) and Lisa Paloian (51).

On Monday, the Indians won the Intraconference Tournament championship at Coyote Run with a 433. Menconi finished second (101), Dunn took fourth (108), Paloian finished fifth (109) and Ashley Brandt tied for ninth (115).

Men's golf
Lewis finishes 8th -- At the Murray State Invitational, the Flyers were eighth among 14 teams with a three-day score of 880. Lewis' Paul Dagys shot a 218 (71-73-74) to tie for 25th. Greg Rodrique carded a 219 (75-72-72), good for 31st.
Boys cross country
Minooka wins -- At Joliet, the Indians had 21, Plainfield South 38 and Oswego East 72. The Indians' Josh Keck won the three-mile race in 15:30, Kyle Smith was third (16:05), Sean Coyle placed fourth (16:13), Julian Hoshell finished fifth (16:16) and Ryan Kelley placed eighth (16:44).

South's Jake Ferris finished second in 15:31, Mike Maki placed sixth in 16:30, Nick Maher was ninth (16:57), Tyler Ryan placed 10th (16:58) and Kyle Ryan was 11th (17:00>

Ehringer 5th -- At Braidwood, Reed-Custer's Troy Ehringer placed fifth in a five-team meet with a ime of 17:21 for there miles. The Comets' Mike Lovino placed ninth (17:48).

El Paso/Gridley Invite -- Dwight/Gardner-South Wilmington's Brian Scoggin placed 22nd with a time of 18:37.6 for three miles. Dwight/Gardner-South Wilmington placed ninth among 12 teams with 227 points.

Girls cross country
Minooka wins -- At Joliet, the Indians won with 17 points. Oswego East had 50 and Plainfield South finished with 67. For Minooka, Maggie Raynor won the three-mile race in a time of 18:50. Other finishers were Rachael Williams (2nd, 19:05), Kaitlin Hoy (3rd, 19:21), Rachel Morman (5th, 19:29) and Maddie Simon (6th 20:07).

El Paso/Gridley Invite -- Dwight/Gardner-South Wilmington's Breanna McGarvey was 20th with a time of 23:14.5.
