For now, Molly Batozech, 11, of Joliet, has found her vocal niche. The girl who began singing for her family at age 3, taught herself to play piano by ear at age 4, and entertains her friends with karaoke, is inspiring the masses this summer with "The Star-Spangled Banner."

History: This divided-back postcard shows a photograph of the old Will County Jail and the sheriff's residence. Located near the old courthouse on the northeast corner of Chicago and Washington streets, the Will County Jail is the two-story limestone building on the right, and the sheriff's home is the structure on the left. County records indicate that a number of executions by hanging were carried out at the old jail during the 19th and early 20th centuries. When the sheriff's residence and jail were torn down in 1969, Chicago Street was closed to traffic and a new courthouse and public parking lot was created just east of the new courthouse. Today the Will County Jail is located on South Chicago Street and is officially known as the Will County Adult Detention Facility. The facility opened in 1989. The detention facility is best known for its podular architecture design, which clusters inmate cells around a common day room and is complimented by an inmate management style referred to as direct supervision. When renovations are completed in 2009, the facility will be a 815-bed jail.

Manhattan will welcome a new principal at St. Joseph's Grade School this fall as Ray St. Aubin, moves on to seek the enjoyment of retired life. "It makes it easier to plan for retirement knowing the school board had selected John Garvey to be the new principal," St. Aubin said of his replacement. History: The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was founded in 1868 in New York as a drinking club by a group of actors in an informal drinking society called the Jolly Corks. The name of the new organization was selected because the elk has a number of attributes that were deemed typical of those to be cultivated by members of the fraternity.
