Wedding trends spotlighted at JCC show

Fall weddings are popular these days, as are the colors brown and pink and food stations at the reception. These and other wedding trends will be spotlighted from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 22 at a bridal show at the Joliet Junior College.

Home buyers tax credit renewed

First-time home buyers have been getting tax credits of up to $8,000 since January as part of the economic stimulus package enacted earlier this year. But with the program scheduled to expire at the end of November, the House voted 403-12 Thursday to extend and expand the tax credit to include many buyers who already own homes. The Senate approved the measure Wednesday, and the White House said President Obama would sign it today.

Forecast for holiday jobs not all gloom and doom

Despite an economy that has many still feeling none too merry and forecasts for a 1 percent drop in holiday sales, the holiday hiring front news isn't all gloom and doom. Although an Aon Consulting survey of more than 100 of the nation's leading retailers found that 44 percent are hiring fewer holiday workers this year, a majority have no plans to pull back; 19 percent said they plan to boost their hiring, and 37 percent said their levels will remain the same as last year.
