Reducing stress talk

The seminar will be presented from 7-8 p.m. Nov. 3 at Plainfield North High School, 12005 S. 248th St., Plainfield.

The seminar will feature Naperville-based psychologist Dr. Margaret Wehrenberg. She will offer advice about what parents can do to prevent stress from impacting their children. Parents will also learn techniques to help their teenagers cope with stress.

School safety
ROMEOVILLE -- School safety, grading and "Success for All," will be the topics on Nov. 4 when Romeoville High School Principal John Sparlin holds a community forum at the Romeoville Recreation Center.

Sparlin and Assistant Principal Derek Kinder will begin the presentation at 7 p.m. Questions from the community on anything and everything will be taken after the presentation.

"Success for All" is Sparlin's model for school improvement.

Other forums are scheduled for Dec. 1 at High Point Community Church and Feb. 9 and March 3 at either Martinez or Lukancic middle schools.

'Footlight Frenzy'
Providence Catholic High School's Drama Club will present its fall play "Footlight Frenzy" from Nov. 5-8 at the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Theater, 201 W. Jefferson St. in Joliet.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $8 each ($5 for students and senior citizens). Tickets may be purchased at the door. For more information, call 815-485-2136, ext. 3323.

The play is directed by Dee Hamilton, Providence's drama director. The cast includes: Mike Murdie of Manhattan as Paul (Nicky), Ryan Hinsdale of Mokena as Alex (Chaz), Martin Moran of Homer Glen as Tony (Uncle Julian), Sean McSwain of Tinley Park as Benny (Johnny Chicago), Abbie Welsch of Plainfield as Laura (Addie Starr), Alyse Gray of New Lenox as Debbie (Gwen), Andrea Massimilian of Orland Park as understudy for Debbie and Laura, Mike Guidotti of Plainfield as understudy for Paul and Benny.

Step-Up Day at JCA
Joliet Catholic Academy will host Step-Up Day 2009 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the school, 200 N. Larkin Ave. in Joliet.

Eighth-graders interested in becoming part of the JCA family are encouraged to attend.

Prairie restoration
NEW LENOX -- Spaces are still available for area children who want to participate in a hands-on learning experience at the Agri-Science Center behind Lincoln-Way East High School.

Children will be making seed collectors out of milk jugs and working to restore the Lincoln-Way Community Prairie from 1-2:30 p.m. on Nov. 7.

The event is organized by the school's Environmental Action Club and is open to grade school children in the Lincoln-Way area.

Parents may register for the program by calling 815-534-3014 or e-mailing outdoor@lw210.org by Nov. 2. The program is open to the first 45 kids who respond. There is no fee to participate.

Family reading night
HOMER GLEN -- Goodings Grove School will host a family reading night from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 12 at the school, 12914 W. 143rd St. in Homer Glen.

The event will include a Scholastic Book Fair, storyteller Cathy Meyers (a former Goodings Grove social worker), a book talk and a book raffle.
