New facility-use fees for Troy schools

October 28, 2009

JOLIET -- Troy School Board approved new facility use fees.

The administration recommended new fees after the district conducted a thorough review of area districts' facility use fees and guidelines.

The new fees are categorized into four new categories: school-affiliated groups, nonprofit groups without admission fees, nonprofit groups with admission fees, and for-profit groups.

School-affiliated groups will not be charged a fee to use school facilities. The approved fee for nonprofit groups will be $65 per hour for using the gym, cafeteria, classroom or athletic fields. The for-profit group fee to use the classroom or athletic fields is $75 per hour and $100 per hour to use a gymnasium and cafeteria.

Questions regarding the fees should be directed to the Troy business office at 815-577-6760.

In other business, the board agreed that the newly constructed technology department, which is located in Troy Crossroads Elementary School, be named the L. Uden Technology Center in recognition and memory of Loren C. Uden.

Uden was elected to the board in April 2001 and was re-elected in April 2005. He served as the board secretary from April 2003 until April 2005. He was also a member of the Troy technology committee and the Troy science fair. Uden passed away in August of 2008.

"His dedication to public service and contributions positively impacted the lives of many students and families," White said.

The board also approved three extracurriculars: the science club; Troy EMPOWER (Engaging Males Positively on Walking Everyday Right) at Troy Middle School; and grades third and fourth intramurals at Troy Hofer Elementary School.
