JOLIET ­-- Students and visitors will be searched this morning as they arrive at Joliet West High School after a bomb threat was discovered Wednesday.

"A message was scrawled on a bathroom stall indicating a bomb was set to go off at 11 a.m. and provided a locker number," Deputy Police Chief Mike Trafton said.

Joliet canine units and federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms searched the school Thursday night, but did not find anything suspicious, reports said.

Trafton said there would be "an increase in police presence" at the school this morning, but anyone entering the building would be searched by school personnel.

District spokeswoman Kristine Schlismann said parents were notified about the search through an automated telephone message that went out Thursday night.

"The search that is being conducted is in the best interest of safety for our students, staff, and visitors," she said. "Joliet Township High School will continue to practice a proactive approach to security and will work with the Joliet Police Department to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff."
