Robbery suspects nabbed

November 4, 2009

JOLIET -- Two teens were arrested after reportedly being part of a crew that robbed a man in a casino parking lot early Tuesday.

Anthony D. Price, 18, of 624 Wisconsin St., and Cartier M. Collins, 18, of 568 Dover St., have both been charged with armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and obstructing a police officer, Deputy Chief Mike Trafton said.

"At 12:17 a.m., a 23-year-old man arrived at the Empress Casino to gamble," Trafton said. "He got out of his vehicle and was approached by two men wearing all black clothing and (ski) masks."

Both bandits took out handguns and demanded the victim's wallet before running to a tan Toyota Corolla with two other men inside.

The victim alerted police who broadcast a description of the Corolla.

"A few minutes later Sgt. Robert Brown was near the intersection of Larkin Avenue and McDonough Streets when he spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over," Trafton said.

Instead of stopping, the car sped into the alley behind a nearby motel and four men ran out into the neighborhood.

Trafton said police surrounded the area and began searching with a canine unit.

"The canine found Collins hiding in a shed, as well as a handgun right outside it," he said.

Officers also reportedly found Price with another handgun nearby. A ski mask, gloves and the victim's wallet were found inside the getaway car, police said.

After being questioned, both men were booked into the county jail.

"Investigators currently have several leads to identify the other two suspects involved," Trafton said.

Liquor store heist

Spokesman Pat Barry confirmed Will County sheriff's detectives were planning to question Price and Collins on Thursday night regarding an Oct. 28 liquor store robbery in Joliet Township.

In that incident, three men wearing black clothing and ski masks used handguns to threaten employees at Ingalls Park Food and Liquor, 1822 E. Washington St. They took money from the register and safe, stole a bottle of gin and punched a cashier in the face.

"Detectives are working with Joliet police to see if their arrested suspects could be linked to that incident," Barry said.
