Future in-law to out-law?

October 27, 2009

JOLIET -- Police say a man shot at his girlfriend's relatives after the couple argued Saturday.

Deputy Chief Mike Trafton said William L. Lindsey , 27, and the 22-year-old woman were involved in an "ongoing dispute" near her residence in a public housing unit in the 300 block of South Des Plaines Street.

"Around 1 p.m., three family members came and Lindsey pulled out a gun and threatened them. They left the unit to go into the courtyard, and he went upstairs and fired a shot at them," Trafton said.

The relatives fled and called police, who cordoned off the area when Lindsey refused to surrender.

"After about 30 minutes, he came out, along with his girlfriend and the couple's small children. No one was injured," Trafton said.

Lindsey, of 739 Woodruff Road, was arrested and booked into the county jail on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon, domestic battery and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Records indicate Lindsey is a convicted sex offender who was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm in March.

JOLIET -- A house was damaged by gunfire early Monday.

Police say it was just after midnight when shots were fired at a house in the 200 block of Henderson Avenue. Four people were home at the time. No injuries were reported, but bullets damaged a wall and two windows. One victim said the shots were fired from a car stopped on the street, but could not describe the vehicle.
