Report: More evidence found on river body
A Chicago television station is reporting that it has learned that Illinois State Police have recovered additional evidence relating to a body found on the banks of the Des Plaines River in Channahon on Wednesday.
No details on the evidence were given in the CBS 2 report and police would not confirm that items found Saturday were bones from the remains, according to WBBM radio.
An autopsy on the remains was inconclusive and officials are using DNA evidence in an attempt to identify the body.
There has been speculation the remains may be that of Stacy Peterson, a Bolingbrook woman who disappeared in October 2007, or Lisa Stebic, a Plainfield woman who disappeared in April 2007. Police have called both cases "potential homicides."
"Positive identification may hinge on forensic DNA analysis, which is being expedited through the Illinois State Police Forensic Crime Laboratory," O'Neil said earlier in the week.
Officials estimated it could take two weeks for Will County officials to receive forensic DNA and forensic anthropology results .
Other items that were discovered include shreds of blue jeans that contained a small amount of U. S. currency.
