Claims by ACORN laughable
After seeing the news clips of the representative from ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, I find it quite hilarious that she would say that the people who exposed the organization's fraudulent practices were racist. In my opinion, this in itself shows a racial bias that she herself holds. We aren't supposed to remember voter registration fraud, funding for housing for the purpose of illegal practices and any endorsement of tax fraud that the video has shown. Of course, the people that exposed this organization for what it really is will be sued. The best thing that can happen with this would be the release of tons more video showing more of the other fraudulent practices they use.Gary Bishop

Handicapped treated poorly
A friend was parked in a handicapped space near the Card Outlet by Westfield Louis Joliet mall. While in the store, someone left a nasty letter on his vehicle, cussing him out for parking in a handicapped space and making marks on my friend's vehicle. My friend is a Vietnam vet and does have handicapped plates. You know that emblem of a wheelchair that appears on the plates? That means the driver of the vehicle has a disability. Next time, use your head and read before you act.Diane Clennon

Council mum on its votes
Based on Tim Placher's Common Sense columns, our city council is composed of something less than a collection of intellectual giants. Maybe it's time for voters to start emptying some council chairs. I notice that no member of the city council has chosen to answer Placher in print. Maybe they agree with his assessment of their performance.Louis Lagger

Bush to blame for economy
I'm responding to Bob Lemke's OpenLine comment, saying Barack Obama and the Democrats are responsible for our economic problems. For the last eight years, George Bush and his cronies sabotaged the country. Obama responsible for our economic problems? That's like blaming the iceberg for sinking the Titanic.Michael O'Connor

City bailing out Rialto again?
Let's see if the city of Joliet bails out the Rialto Square Theatre with $600,000 like the city has done for the last 10 years. Probably. Steve Pesavento

Republic intersection hazard
I'm calling about the potential massive accident that will be caused sooner or later at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Republic Avenue in Joliet. Sometimes it takes nearly five minutes to get across Jefferson to go east when going south on Republic. Maybe some of the wizards could possibly put up a traffic signal device at the intersection. Bottom line? You just can't get across.Chris Armano
