Learn leadership skills
I laughed when I read that U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson said, "We try to spend every spare second we can in the community listening."
Didn't Halvorson refuse to meet with her constituents who are concerned about the pending health care reform bills? Didn't her constituents find the doors to their congressional office blocked by paid protesters when they tried to meet with Halvorson? Haven't people been writing in to the newspaper complaining that these telephone town halls of hers are a sham?
Clearly, she found find time to discuss the economy with three business owners in Minooka. Clearly, she found time on her recess in August for a campaign fundraiser in Chicago with Vice President Joe Biden. Why she raises money from Chicago when she represents the 11th Congressional District raises some interesting questions. She just must have not had any "spare seconds" to listen to our questions and concerns about health care reform.
Her lack of judgment was obvious the evening congressional candidate Adam Kinzinger visited Minooka. He held a town hall meeting that our representative didn't have time for, and it wasn't just three people that came; it was more than 500. Kinzinger spoke briefly, listened for hours and made two promises: he will always listen and will always communicate his positions clearly to his constituents.
Too bad Halvorson didn't have time to be there. She might have learned something about leadership.
