Search set for Stacy and Lisa
Volunteers will comb new territory Saturday for any trace of two missing local women.
It has been more than a month since Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson vanished, and seven months since Plainfield mom Lisa Stebic disappeared.
Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at Westbrook Christian Church, 1175 Lily Cache Lane in Bolingbrook. State police will point them to new search areas, planners say.
Pam Bosco, a spokeswoman for Stacy's family, said they are planning to hold a candlelight vigil outside the Peterson house at 4 p.m. Saturday.
"We're not just looking for Stacy," Bosco said, mentioning Stebic.
"We don't know where this investigation will lead us but obviously there's a bigger picture here that we're all concerned about and we all want answers."
The husbands of both women are under suspicion by police -- investigators say Stacy's husband Drew Peterson is a suspect in her disappearance, and police this summer named Craig Stebic a "person of interest" in Lisa's case.
Volunteers have been looking for Stebic since she was reported missing May 1. Several local large-scale searches that drew hundreds of volunteers came up empty.
Recently, volunteers passed out information about Lisa to hunters in Michigan's upper peninsula, where the Stebic family has a cabin.
Melanie Greenberg, a spokeswoman for Lisa's family, said the close proximity of the Peterson home to the Stebic home means those looking for Stacy are covering the same areas they would search for Lisa.
"Our family's hearts go out to Stacy's family because, like no one else, we can understand the pain and agony they're going through," Greenberg said. "All we can do is offer our support and stand shoulder to shoulder with them."
State police searching for Stacy Peterson have approached the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers about removing debris -- including cars -- from the Cal Sag Channel, a spokeswoman for the Army Corps confirmed Thursday.
But investigators haven't filed a formal request for the salvage work, which would only take place if state police or another government agency agrees to reimburse the Army Corps for the work, said spokeswoman Justine Barati.
Barati wouldn't identify the section of channel being eyed by investigators.
