Romeoville to be reimbursed for dispatcher system

November 11, 2009

ROMEOVILLE -- Another key component of the Romeoville Police Department's new station -- its dispatch console communications system -- was approved by the village board.

The village will spend $478,727 to purchase the necessary equipment from Motorola, Village Administrator Steve Gulden said. The expense, however, will be reimbursed by the Will County 911 Board, which is ultimately responsible for all emergency dispatching services in the county, he said.

Motorola has already been awarded the contract to supply $1.6 million in state-of-the-art radio equipment for the new station, which will be part of a new village hall currently under construction. That includes 35 portable radios for police, fire and emergency management staff, an alert system, backup systems and a 160-foot tower.

Not put out to bid
The village board opted to waive the requirement that staff go out to bid on the console in order to guarantee the equipment and software will be compatible with the radio equipment, Gulden said.

According to the purchase agreement approved, the console will include sufficient space for five operators, nine analog conventional channels, 60 auxiliary inputs and 50 auxiliary outputs.
