November 8, 2009

Grant for JTHS students

JOLIET -- A $43,000 grant awarded to the Youth Experiencing Success in School (YESS) program and the Joliet Township High School Foundation will be used to support students who are not attending or attaching to school.

The grant was awarded by the Will County Community Foundation.

The grant will fund a program that follows the YESS model of community collaboration to assist a specific need or population.

The program has five components which includes creating a position for a school completion officer; implementing an after school program which focuses on students' strengths and passions; providing opportunities for college and university field trips and service learning opportunities; and participating in a manners and etiquette program.

Free dinner for vets

JOLIET -- Veterans are invited for a free Veterans Day dinner 4-10 p.m. Wednesday at Texas Roadhouse, 3151 Tonti Drive.

The Texas-size dinner is a way to thank veterans for their service to the country.

All veterans who show up in uniform (or with military identification) will be honored guests for dinner.
