New Red Cross officer
MORRIS -- Julie Wilkinson has joined the American Red Cross Grundy County Chapter as a community development officer.

Wilkinson comes to Grundy County from Rock Island, where she served as director of development for Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities.

Wilkinson holds a bachelor's degree in both Spanish and communication from Illinois College in Jacksonville. She earned a master's degree in speech communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she taught public speaking to undergraduates.

She recently moved to Morris where she lives with her husband Phil.

Citizens' Police Academy
LEMONT -- The Lemont Police Department invites those interested in learning about the law enforcement profession to attend its fifth Citizen's Police Academy.

The academy will offer seven two-hour training sessions 7-9 p.m. Feb. 3 to March 31.

There will be an additional session for a graduation ceremony and optional field trips to other law enforcement areas.

Class will be limited to 20 students. Registration deadline is Jan. 15. Call Sgt. Therese Thompson at 630-257-2229.
