Channahon police work toward accreditation
CHANNAHON -- A team from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, provided by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, will arrive Nov. 30, to examine all aspects of the Channahon Police Department's policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Chief Joe Pena announced.
"Becoming an accredited agency has provided us an opportunity to review all of our policies and procedures to insure we continue to provide quality services to our community," Pena said.
"Leadership is about vision and all of the officers continue to demonstrate their leadership abilities. I am extremely proud to be a part of this organization and proud of all the department members' hard work to prepare for the on-site assessment."
As part of the assessment, members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by telephone. The public may call 815-467-8354 from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 1.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with the program standards. Copies of the standards are available at department, 24555 S. Navajo Drive, or by calling Deputy Chief Jeff Wold at 815-467-5152.
Wold is serving as the department's accreditation manager.
Those unable to make telephone comments at the designated time may call Sycamore Police Chief Donald Thomas at 815-895-3435.
"The Channahon Police Department has to comply with 72 standards in order to gain accreditation status," Wold said.
