NEW LENOX -- Hot mail?

Smoke from malfunctioning heating equipment brought firefighters to the New Lenox Post Office, 200 N. Vine St., around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

"It turned out to be a burned out furnace motor," Captain Chris Ward said. "We got it taken care of in just a few minutes." No injuries were reported.

Police news in brief:

Vincente Vasquez , 44, of 7001 Riley Drive in Joliet, was arrested by sheriff's police and booked into the county jail Sunday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.


Scott J. Cepaitis , 29, of 70 Allen St. in Joliet, was arrested by Joliet police and booked into the county jail Sunday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.


Freddie G. Young , 56, of 531 52nd Ave. in Bellwood, was arrested by sheriff's police and booked into the county jail Sunday on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon.


Carlos L. Jenkins , 40, of 3226 Quincy Court in Joliet, was arrested by Joliet police and booked into the county jail Sunday on charges of driving on a revoked or suspended license and operating a motor vehicle with expired registration.
