Ellie's daily diet

April 22, 2008

"I mix this up for her at 5:45 a.m., and she eats a pound of food for her first meal," Ed Kanive said. "She takes a nibble of the food, then sticks her beak in her water bucket. By 10, 11 o'clock, most of it is gone."

Recipe
3 cans peas (the cheapest my wife can find)
1 hardboiled egg, diced, including the shell-must be a chicken egg, not
one of Ellie's
tomatoes, diced
lettuce, chopped
canned corn
protein meal (which Ellie does not like)
Pinch of gravel or grit (to help digestion)
Mix it all up and put into food bowl. Serve with a bucket of water (very
important to a duck). Supplement diet with bugs, flies, spiders and
night crawlers (Ellie's favorite), as desired.
Yield: Feeds one duck.
