CLASSROOM NOTES Sick of germs

PLAINFIELD -- Nearly 50 middle and high school music students in the Plainfield School District were invited to participate in this year's annual Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) District IX festivals for band, orchestra and choir.

Students endured a rigorous audition process before being selected and invited to participate in any of the IMEA festivals at both the senior and junior levels.

High school band, orchestra and choir students will participate in the IMEA District IX Senior Festival on Nov. 21 at Hampshire High School in Hampshire. Jazz band students will play in the IMEA District IX Jazz Festival on Nov. 14 at St. Charles North High School.

These high school students have been invited:

Plainfield North: Ryan Reichert , junior, violin (orchestra); Andrew Smelser , junior, clarinet (band); Maeighthew Miller , junior, Vibes (jazz); Jeffrey Wegrzyn , junior, guitar (jazz)

Plainfield South: Jessica Coffey , senior, soprano I; Jessica Wheaton , senior, alto II; Darien Hutchinson , junior, tenor II; Aileen Hamilton , junior, clarinet (band); Zach Simmering , senior, trumpet (band)

Middle school music students will participate in the IMEA District IX Junior High Festival Nov. 7 at Plano High School. District 202 middle school jazz band students played in the IMEA District IX Junior Jazz Festival on Oct. 31, 2009 at Traughber Junior High School in Oswego.

These students were invited to perform:

Aux Sable Middle School choir: Kayla Edwards (seventh), Allison Hodges (seventh), Kailey Edwards (eighth), Tiara Hodges (eighth), Bryan McDonough (eighth), Staci McDugle (eighth), Ashley Orozco (eghth), Sarah Toth (eighth) and Yasmine Vargas (eighth).

Heritage Grove choir: Abbie Bruen (eighth), Sam Cicero (eighth), Taylor Cicero (eighth), Sarah Crawford (eighth) and Sira Crusoe (eighth).

Ira Jones Middle School band Cassie Schomuhl , (seventh) French horn

Ira Jones Middle School choir: Miciah Costilow (eighth), Kendall Dixon (eighth), Kelsie Granat (eighth), Ashley Hernandez (eighth), Abi Juganaru (seventh), Mariana Kennard (seventh), Cassie Schmidt (eighth), Carly Staser (seventh) and Dominique Stewart (seventh).
