BUSINESS BRIEFS

WJOL Going Green

JOLIET -- For a second straight year, 1340 WJOL is Going Green in May.

All during May, WJOL will discuss how we can make our planet cleaner. The station will give listeners daily tips on how they can make a difference, talk with experts and conduct recycling days.

The schedule of 1340 WJOL/Will County Land Use Department weekly events is as follows:

May 9: 5:30 to 9 a.m. Slocum in the Morning at the Will County Building. Collecting used gym shoes.

May 17: 9 a.m. to noon. The Outsiders at Manhattan Junior High School for an Electronic Collection Event.

May 22: 4 to 6 p.m. Isaac Sancken at Basingers Pharmacy for a Pharmaceutical Take-Back.

May 31: 8 to 10 a.m. The Racers Forum at Joliet Junior College, collecting household hazardous waste.

WJOL also is asking listeners to take a "Pledge to Go Green." On www.wjol.com, WJOL will give listeners several options on things they can do to help make a difference. By choosing five things they can do to make the planet cleaner, they'll get a gift certificate from Babe's Hotdogs, one of their Go Green sponsors.

WJOL also will be giving away WJOL Go Green T-shirts from Ken Woody's Sports and More.

WJOL will give listeners daily tips on how they can change their lifestyles to be more eco-friendly. They also will talk with experts on the topic of global warming and talk with local businesses who already have gone green.

WJOL is distributing GO GREEN Guides throughout the month at locations to be announced. The publication is full of valuable information about making the planet cleaner.

WJOL will also, for a second straight year, send morning news anchor Steve Brandy to mow a lucky listener's lawn with a push mower. No motors for Brandy, just a good, old fashioned blade mower from Ace Hardware. The listener will then get to keep the mower so they can mow the "green way" all summer long.

For more information, go to www.wjol.com.
