New CEO hired

ROMEOVILLE -- Bridget Domberg has been hired as the new president and CEO of the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce .

Domberg previously worked in financial development and community relations at several well known nonprofit organizations in Will County including the United Way of Will County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy Counties, Great Joliet Area YMCA and Stepping Stones Recovery Center. She also served as public relations manager for Harrah's Joliet Casino and Hotel. She will leave her current position as volunteer department coordinator for Joliet Area Community Hospice to assume her new duties with the Romeoville chamber.

The chamber will welcome Domberg at reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Fireside Lounge at Brunswick Zone XL, 735 Center Blvd., Romeoville. Domberg lives in New Lenox. She will join the chamber Monday.

Award winner

AMES, Iowa -- Former Joliet resident Lynn Ross is a recipient of the 2009 Design Achievement Award presented by the Iowa State University College of Design .

Ross graduated from Joliet West High School in 1995. She is the daughter of Helen and J.D. Ross, the former president of Joliet Junior College. Ross is director of state and local initiatives for the National Housing Conference and Center for Housing Policy in Washington, DC.

The Iowa State award recognizes outstanding mid-career creative and professional achievements of alumni in the fields of architecture, art and design, community and regional planning, and landscape architecture. Ross received a bachelor's degree in community and regional planning from Iowa State in 1999. She was honored during Homecoming at the ISU Alumni Association's 78th Annual Honors and Awards Ceremony on Oct. 16.

Short sale an option

JOLIET -- Homeowners struggling to pay their mortgages and who owe more than their home is worth might want to consider a short sale.

"A short sale is no one's ideal scenario, but it is a viable option that might help prevent a bad situation from becoming even worse," said Leo Koulouris , president of the Joliet-based Three Rivers Association of Realtors . "An attorney can provide helpful legal advice and it is important that sellers work with a licensed Illinois Realtor who can help them through the short-sale process."

Homeowners can learn more about short sales at YourIllinoisHome.com. Consumers can also learn more about loan modification and refinancing programs, such as the federal Making Home Affordable Program, on the site. Another resource is Illinois Legal Aid at www.illinoislegalaid.org.

Hospital adds to board

BOLINGBROOK -- The Bolingbrook Hospital Foundation announced the appointment of Bolingbrook resident Bob Jaskiewicz to its board of directors.

Jaskiewicz is executive vice president of sales and region sales director for the eastern United States and Canada for Bibby Financial Services, a commercial lender that serves small- and medium-sized businesses. He works at the Downers Grove office.

Jaskiewicz is a member of the Bolingbrook Chamber of Commerce and previously served on the chamber's board of directors.

Jewel remodeled

ROMEOVILLE -- Jewel-Osco , a leading Midwest food and drug retailer, celebrated the grand reopening of its newly remodeled store at 20 S. Weber Road.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the company made a $1,000 donation to the We Care Food Pantry, which is part of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Romeoville.

"With the help of Jewel-Osco, our families will not go hungry," said pantry coordinator Jack Frazier.

Mobile Learning Center

JOLIET -- The Mobile Learning Center of the Workforce Services Division , a department of Will County government, helps people find jobs and helps businesses find people to fill those jobs.

The center will be at these locations (hours are from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. unless otherwise specified):

Monday: Skateland Recreation Center, 25334 W. Eames St., Channahon

Tuesday: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. University Park Town Center; 1 to 3 p.m. Crete Library, 1177 N. Main

Wednesday: the Mobile Learning Center will be out of service for Veterans Day

Thursday: Wilmington City Hall, 1165 Water St.

Friday: Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Road.
