Settling into the job
Mike Schauer's first formal activity as the new men's basketball coach at Wheaton College was something he's been a part of for 14 years -- working at the Thunder's basketball camp.
Schauer replaced Bill Harris, who retired at the end of this past season after 18 years as head coach.

Silver Cross Field site for baseball dreamers
Silver Cross Field will be the site of a unique fall baseball camp.
Super Independent Baseball will run a tryout camp for 88 college players from Sept. 20 to Oct. 11.
The Herald News previously reported arrangements were being made to possibly hold the event in Joliet, and the plans have since been finalized.

guidelines for high school athletes June 18.
Red Eleven make it look easy
Wednesday night's W-League game pitted a team with playoff fever
against a team with the namesake "Fever." Beyond that coincidence, the teams shared few similarities. Forward Michelle O'Brien scored in the fourth minute for the only goal the Chicago Red Eleven needed in their easy 3-0 home victory over the Ft. Wayne Fever.

Yes, Glenbard South failed to win a game at the state finals held June 12 to 13 at EastSide Centre in East Peoria.
Wheaton golfer excels in international event
The Illinois Junior Golf Club and the Bolingbrook Golf Club joined up
to host the World Youth Team Challenge over four days, and it turned
out to be a world-class event.

Burlington C. beats Glenbard S. to take third State prep softball: In most cases, if you don't win the state title, your season ends in
a loss. After losing to eventual state champion Oak Forest on Friday in the Class 3A state semifinals, Burlington Central came out Saturday morning and made sure that didn't happen. The Rockets put the finishing touches on remarkable season by
beating Glenbard South 3-1 at the EastSide Centre to earn the
third-place trophy, the program's best finish in school history.

Raiders fall in semifinals, will play for third
Glenbard South's improbable run back to state hit a roadblock. The Raiders couldn't take advantage of eight Chatham Glenwood errors and fell 4-2 in the Class 3A semifinals Friday afternoon at East Peoria. Glenwood (28-8) advances to the title game for the first time since finishing second in Class AA in 1999. Glenbard South (24-13) will play in the third-place game for the second straight season.
Batavia ends Wheaton North baseball season
Redemption.
A motivated Batavia team , that lost to Wheaton North during the regular season, won when it counted in a hard-fought 6-4 victory against the Falcons in the St. Charles North Sectional baseball final June 6.
It was just the second Batavia (30-6) baseball team to ever reach a supersectional.
UCLA offers scholarship to Wheaton North's Graham
Add UCLA to the growing list of major college programs pursuing Wheaton North quarterback Taylor Graham.
Bruins head coach Rick Neuheisel extended a scholarship offer to the 6-4, 215-pound junior June 6 after Graham visited the school.
The dynasty keeps going
The Wheaton Warrenville South boys volleyball seniors played the entire
state tournament like they'd been there before, because they had been
twice, and for the third time in a row they finished as Illinois state
champions.
An encore performance for the Raiders
Who would have thought it was possible?
After a 1-8 start, Glenbard South is headed to state for the second year in a row.
The Raiders (24-12) defeated Trinity (25-14) 3-0 on June 8 in the Class 3A Judson University Super-Sectional in Elgin.

Jess Wilkes pitched a three-hitter to lead Glenbard South past Trinity 3-0 Monday in a Class 3A supersectional at Judson University.
Another chance at an encore
Wheaton Warrenville South exuded the poise of a playoff-tested team in
coming back to win its June 2 Willowbrook Sectional championship 23-25,
25-23, 25-18 over DuPage Valley Conference rival Glenbard East.
Falcons' Trumpy takes third in state hurdles
Last season, as a junior, Wheaton North's Mike Trumpy suffered quite a disappointment at the state track and field meet.
Trumpy placed 10th in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles, leaving him one spot shy of advancing to the Saturday finals.
But May 30, Trumpy made up for it by placing third in the event in 14.46 seconds at the Class 3A state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Raiders fare well in meet's new format
The Illinois High School Association's move to a three-class system for the state track and field meet worked out just fine for Glenbard South's boys team.
The Raiders tied for 15th in the inaugural Class 2A meet with 18 points and advanced four events to May 30's finals at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Falcons rally to win regional title
Outplayed for the first five innings, Wheaton North rallied to win the
St. Charles East Regional title with a dramatic 6-5 victory over
Bartlett on May 30 on an eight-inning Aric Dama walk off single.
