Briefs: Newcomers Club slates social
The Glen Ellyn Newcomers Club will host a welcoming social for new residents interested in joining the organization at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in Glen Ellyn.
The club is a social organization founded in 1952 for the purpose of welcoming women new to Glen Ellyn. The club hosts a variety of social and philanthropic activities throughout the year, in addition to monthly general meetings with special guest speakers.
For directions to the meeting site, visit www.glenellynnewcomers.com or call 630-225-5094.
In addition to live and silent auctions and raffles, the event will feature a dinner and live musical entertainment.
Tickets are $75. For information, call Mary Ann Fornatto at 630-469-5401.
Participants will help remove litter and trim trails. School groups, Scout troops, church groups and other organizations are invited to volunteer. The event is open to all ages, though children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Reservations are required to join the cleanup. Waivers are also required for all volunteers, and those under 18 must have a parent or guardian's signature. For information or to make a reservation, call Volunteer Services at 630-933-7681.
The program involves volunteers of all ages helping their senior neighbors with fall yard work. Last year, 155 senior citizens benefited from Chore Days.
"We are looking for volunteers of all types for outdoor fun while helping their senior neighbors with seasonal yard chores," said Patricia Sims, Chore Days coordinator. "Adults, teens, families, churches, schools, Scouts, businesses and civic and social clubs are all welcomed to participate in this event. The more volunteers we have the more seniors we can serve."
Chore Days will be held the first three weekends in November. Seniors in need of help or those who would like to volunteer should call 630-620-0804.
With every $15 donation, the PRC can offer a family a special choice of classic Thanksgiving "trimmings," their choice of familiar ethnic foods and a grocery gift card to purchase a turkey.
