Geneva seeks bids for road project

November 9, 2009

GENEVA -- The city is seeking bids for a federally funded resurfacing of Kaneville Road between Route 38 and Randall Road.

Aldermen last week approved hiring Engineering Enterprises Inc. of Sugar Grove to continue engineering in the construction phase of the project, as they did in the design stage.

The city will front $85,092 to the company, along with another $8,930 to Terracon Consultants for material testing. The federal government will pay that back to the city, as well as the eventual construction cost, as part of federal stimulus money.

The city hopes to award the bids in January and start the project in May 2010.

Aldermen approved the construction engineering contract with Engineering Enterprises after city staff negotiated the price down from more than $100,000.

The project was not bid because it is professional services and does not need to be.
