Geneva Chamber dinner-awards night Nov. 10

The Geneva Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner and Awards Night will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Eagle Brook Country Club, 2288 Fargo Blvd., Geneva.

The event will recognize members who have made special contributions to the Chamber by presenting President, Ambassador and Spirit Awards to individuals and businesses. The prestigious Wood Community Service Award winner will also be announced.

Each year the Wood Award is presented by the Geneva Chamber to an individual who has made significant community contributions in the areas of business, education, youth involvement, civic organizations, arts, recreation, charity or government. The award is named in honor of Bill and Elise Wood and Nell and Burt Wood. These four contributed to the growth and health of the City of Geneva, and William C. Wood was the first recipient of the award in 1985.

GHS presents 'Hay Fever'

Geneva Community High School will present "Hay Fever" by Noel Coward at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 and 14 and 2 p.m. Nov. 15 in the GHS Auditorium, 416 McKinley.

Described as a cross between high farce and a comedy of manners, the play is set in an English country house in the 1920s, and deals with the four eccentric members of the Bliss family and their outlandish behavior when they each invite a guest to spend the weekend.

Tickets are available at the door: $3 students and seniors, $5 adults. Call 630-463-3800.

District 304 forum

All interested community members are invited to attend a community forum sponsored by Geneva School District 304 on Saturday, Nov. 14.

The forum will be held at Geneva Middle School South, 1415 Viking Drive, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

District administrators and several Board of Education members will present information on district goals and long-range financial planning and to answer questions on these and other topics.

Support our troops

A handwritten letter can make all the difference between a good day and a bad day for a deployed service member. On Tuesday, Nov. 10, at noon, Sarah Giachino, Co-Chair of Fox Valley Troop Support Inc., will guide participants on how to write a heartfelt message to brighten a soldier's day and will provide information on how citizens/students can help prepare care packages to troops stationed overseas.

This presentation is a part of the Geneva History Center's Brown Bag Lecture Series. Meet in the Community Room at the center, 113 S. 3rd St.

Holiday happenings

Geneva's annual Christmas House Tour next month will include five distinctive homes specially decorated for the holidays by local decorators. Self-guided tours will go from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Tickets include a holiday tea: $28 per person; $30 after Dec. 3. Proceeds are used to decorate Geneva for the holiday season. • Holiday Arts & Craft Show: The 34th annual Mothers Club of Geneva Holiday Arts and Craft Show will be Nov. 14 at Geneva High School, 415 Logan Ave., featuring handmade items from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also available will be a Homestyle Bakery with homemade goodies and a luncheon with items from local restaurants for sale.
