Southwest Trading Co. trades spaces

November 1, 2009

Southwest Trading Co. is right at home in the historic Wright House at 217 S. Third Street in Geneva. It moved in September from Dotson Place down the street where it operated for five years.

In business since 1977, owners Steve Fabiani and Carol Farugia — a husband and wife team — bring Native American-made art, jewelry, furnishings and more to the Fox Valley. They are frequently on "buying trips" to Albuquerque, N.M., and elsewhere looking for native items, such as fine sterling silver and turquoise.

The couple bought the Wright House (circa 1853) last year and rehabbed it to include additional retail shops along with their authentic gallery.

"We couldn't be happier," Fabiani said.

Comings

• What was Jason's at Gray's Mill is soon to be Gray's Mill on the Fox at 211 N. River St. across from Route 25 in Montgomery. The new restaurant will feature Italian cuisine, although new owner Flavio Capetillo, of Oswego, is Mexican.

"We are going after elegance," Capetillo said. He has hired a chef with White Eagle and Fox Bend on his resume and is wading through inspections and liquor licensing.

Capetillo hopes to open Gray's Mill by Nov. 15.

• Chiro One Wellness Centers recently opened a clinic at 2281 Orchard Road in Oswego. Robert Sazama is providing chiropractic care as the clinic director and is accepting new patients. Contact Sazama at 630-608-1110 or rsazama@chiroone.net.

• Om Towne Fitness at 41 W. New York St. in downtown Aurora is up and running. Located across from Ballydoyle, upstairs in Suite B, Annie Craig brings her yoga expertise to her own studio.

Craig is the former Aurora Township Supervisor. Her studio specializes in yoga, Pilates and hip-tease instruction. E-mail Craig at anniecraig@email.com for a current schedule.

Goings

Hollywood Video in Aurora is closed. The video store chain that once was two-strong in the city has closed its second location at 2150 W. Galena Blvd. on the West Side.

Customers can use their card and redeem any coupons at the Montgomery location at 1791 Douglas Road.

The store closed in October allegedly due to leasing issues.

Anniversaries

Massage Envy in Oswego is turning 2 and feeling good. Owner Jan Gentner said her stress-relieving business is really growing in spite of bad economic times. "We have addressed the needs of a recession," said Gentner, 45. "We are giving people relief from the stress."

Three years ago, Gentner said goodbye to her well-paying sales job and opened her first Massage Envy — known for its $39 massage specials — franchise in Wheaton. She said Oswego called out to her as an "up and coming" area.

And she hasn't been let down. Oswego is embracing affordable massages, she said.

"It's been awesome," Gentner said. "We are helping people remain healthy."

In September, the community assisted the location at 1770 Douglas Ave. in raising hundreds of dollars at a one-day event to support the local affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
