Flu outbreak prompts closure of Wheaton Academy

WEST CHICAGO -- A small outbreak of the H1N1 flu, as well as reports of flu-like symptoms, has prompted the closure of Wheaton Academy in West Chicago, according to school officials.

The suburban high school will be closed to students on Friday due to “precautionary reasons,” according to the school’s communication coordinator Chrissy Little, who said “a few” students had confirmed cases of H1N1 and that many other students were suffering from flu-like symptoms.

The said students won’t return to campus until Wednesday because the school is holding parent-teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday.

“The closure is mainly to just get a little extra time for everyone to get healthy,” Little said.
