CARPENTERSVILLE – You might think their worst loss of the season would be cause for concern for the Dundee-Crown Chargers.

But following Friday night's 52-35 non-conference setback against Waubonsie Valley, the reaction by D-C coach Lance Huber was mostly ho-hum. His Chargers looked unimpressive, shooting 31 percent (15-for-48) from the field and scored just 12 points after taking a 23-22 halftime lead.

"I don't want to say it didn't mean a lot," Huber said of the defeat which snapped his team's six-game win streak.

In reality, though, it didn't mean much. The Chargers (15-5) have already been dubbed a No. 1 seed in regional play and they can pull closer to claiming the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division title by beating visiting Crystal Lake South tonight.

D-C didn't exhibit near the intensity that it has in recent weeks and Waubonsie (11-11) played well. The Warriors took command from the get-go in the third quarter, using a 9-2 burst to go on top for good.

"I thought if we played with good defensive intensity in the second half we'd have a chance," said Warriors coach Steve Weemer. "We've been lacking that this year."

Waubonsie got 13 points each from Western Illinois-bound forward Jelani Johnson and guard Jonny Strauss and center Roy McElroy added 11 points and six rebounds. The Warriors converted 11 of 25 field goal attempts in the second half and did not commit a turnover following the break.

D-C never got into the flow and that included senior guard Jeff Beck, who scored just nine points on 4-for-11 shooting. Beck missed the final 5:40 of the second quarter after drawing his second foul.

"They kind of took it to us," said Huber.

The Chargers were led by senior center Charles Kimbrough, who scored 10 points, corralled six rebounds and blocked seven shots. Senior Marcus Henry added eight points for D-C.

"Our guys competed and played hard," said Huber, whose team mustered a season-low point total. "It just seemed like we were a step slow."
