PLANO -- Genoa-Kingston's soccer team made easy work of Plano in a non-conference matchup Thursday night, winning 8-0.
The biggest contributor for the Cogs did not even start the game as Ryan Munch came off the bench to score five goals and fuel G-K's attack.
"We came off a big win yesterday and seemed a little sluggish in the first half," G-K coach Randy Tate said. "In the second half the guys got the train rolling and the result was a lot of goals."
Luis Mendoza, Anthony Parra and Eric Buffington scored the other goals for G-K while Kip Beach preserved the shutout.
Burlington Central 3, Hampshire 2 -- Ryan Warner lifted the Rockets from a 2-1 first half deficit by scoring two of his three goals in the second half. Central moved its record to 8-9-2 and 5-2-1 in the Big Northern Conference East Division. Goalkeeper Kyle DeRaedt scooped up eight saves in the win.
Jacobs 2, Crystal Lake South 1 -- The Golden Eagles knocked off their Fox Valley Conference Valley Division foe with goals from Luis Cabral and Brian Obmalay. Mark Kyszka and Cabral provided the assists. Danny Trevor and Zach Dalzell combined for 13 saves in goal for Jacobs (9-7-4, 5-3).
Prairie Ridge 3, Huntley 1 -- The Red Raiders fell to 7-5-2 overall and 5-4 in Fox Valley Fox Division play with the loss to Prairie Ridge. Nico Carbonara scored the lone goal for the Red Raiders on an assist from Sean Tlapik.
Montini 4, St. Edward 2 -- David Smith and Jim Cholewa both scored for the Green Wave with Miguel Martinez and Lucas Belcher supplying the assists. St. Edward dropped to 5-13-2 and 2-3 in the Suburban Catholic Conference.
Lake Park 2, South Elgin 0 -- South Elgin (5-9-1, 1-6-1) failed to score for only the second time all year in this Upstate Eight Conference match. Goalkeeper Ryan Hicks had seven saves in the loss. girls tennis
Elgin Academy 4, Hampshire 1 -- Bianca Swegler and Taylor Yavari each scored singles wins for the Hilltoppers, who moved to 6-10 on the season.
The team of Kendall Walker and Stacy Keach scored a straight-set doubles win for the Whip-Purs.
Other individual winners included Jessica England (200 IM, 2:21.49), Danielle Goebbert (1-meter diving, 194.15) and Gessica Lee (100 free, 57.26). Jacobs 147, West Aurora 115, Elgin-Larkin 40 -- Jacobs was led by Amanda Podczerwinski, who finished first in the 200 IM (2:30.20) and 100 breaststroke (1:17.39). Chelsea Conzelman (500 free, 5:53.50), Emily Susmarski (200 free, 2:05.98) and Molly Messner (50 free, 26.35) also won as individuals.
Elgin-Larkin's Lauren Sprague finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.01. Women's Soccer
ECC 7, South Suburban 3 -- Rebekah Haberkost scored three goals and Amy Schmitz added two goals and two assists to lead the Spartans. Abbi Palmer and Sarah Sester also counted goals for ECC.
A silent auction featuring autographed items from Cubs, White Sox and Bears players, along with a variety of gift certificates, tickets and sports gear will begin at 1 p.m.
The men's and women's basketball teams will also take on club teams from Northwestern University during the event.
