Larkin's Williams, Schue return to All-UEC team

Larkin senior Jalen Williams and St. Charles East senior Jonathan Voytilla will have to settle for runner-up status.

Williams finished second to Lake Park senior Artie Monaco in voting for 2009 Upstate Eight Conference offensive MVP honors. Meanwhile, Voytilla was second to Waubonsie Valley's Rickey Simpson in defensive MVP voting.

Voytilla, a defensive lineman, was one of five players named to the all-conference team from the league champion Saints. Lake Park led all teams with six honorees.

Offensive lineman Rafael Flores, quarterback Nolan Possley, linebacker Phil Bucaro and defensive back Bryce Barry were the other East players named to the squad.

St. Charles North also had five players earn All-UEC honors. Receiver Jeff Stolzenburg, offensive lineman Matt Mautone, defensive lineman Brian Pedersen, linebacker J.J. Weaver and defensive back Conner Mohs were the other North Star representatives.

Williams and Larkin teammate Cody Schue were both named to the team for the second straight year. Linebacker Alex Wahl was also an All-UEC selection for the Royals.

South Elgin quarterback John Menken was one of three juniors named to the team. Receiver Jake Kumerow and linebacker Sean Kolber were the Storm's other two representatives. Kumerow finished third in offensive MVP voting.

Bartlett had four players named to the team, including Greg Partyka, a three-time honoree for his efforts at tight end. Teammate Brendan Bauers was recognized by the league for the second straight year. Defensive lineman Eric Moreno and linebacker Jim Crain were the other Hawks representatives.

Elgin linebacker Cory Michalik and punter Jeremy VanDerpluym also earned All-UEC honors, as did Streamwood defensive back Matt Woods.

All-UEC soccer team announced -- The Bartlett boys soccer team had four players earn All-UEC honors.

Seniors Brian Roman and Joe McCullough, along with juniors Brett Dini and Jeff Gal, received the recognition for the Hawks, who finished 15-6 and third in the UEC.

St. Charles North seniors Angelo Catalano, Dan Figura and James Reed were also named to the team along with St. Charles East seniors Charlie Lyon and Jonny Schnell.

South Elgin's Devin Crockett and Bart Mazurek ended their four-year tenures as All-UEC selections.

Senior goalkeeper Osiel Ravadan was the lone representative for Elgin High. Larkin junior Alex Sanchez and Streamwood senior Alex Perez were also named to the team.
