The senior first baseman provided consistency for the Hawks by batting .352 with 21 runs, 38 hits and 19 RBIs. She was also one of the most improved players on the team, helping Bartlett to a 22-15 finish and a sectional title.
Cassy Bencal
Jacobs The senior catcher was Jacobs' team leader and ended her year with a .365 batting average and a .442 slugging percentage. She earned All-Fox Valley Conference honors while catching for four different pitchers.
Courtney Bosteder
South Elgin The junior shortstop stepped up in a big way for the Storm by hitting .433 with five home runs and 40 RBIs. The All-Upstate Eight Conference selection had a .491 on-base percentage and was a big reason why South Elgin tied the school record for wins (23) and earned its second straight regional crown.
Kristina Brockner
St. Edward The junior catcher carried a very workmanlike attitude into every game and finished with a .364 batting average, 23 RBIs, eight doubles and a team-high 36 hits. She earned All-Suburban Catholic Conference honors, helping the Wave to a 19-13 record.
Amanda Ciran
St. Charles North The sophomore stepped up for the North Stars in the pitching circle. The All-Upstate Eight Conference selection logged 99 innings with a 1.13 ERA. She had 91 strikeouts and ended her season with an 11-5 record for the UEC champs.
Callie Dennison
Bartlett
The junior who has committed to Butler was another all-around athlete for the Hawks. As the ace of the staff, the All-Upstate Eight Conference choice went 18-12 with a 1.72 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 207 1/3 innings pitched. At the plate she batted .341 with five home runs and a team-high 32 RBIs.
Lea Diaz
St. Edward The sophomore immediately made her presence felt in the St. Edward lineup and finished the season with team highs in batting average (.419), runs scored (33), home runs (2), stolen bases (26), walks (22) and on-base percentage (.612). An all-Suburban Catholic Conference selection.
Sam Gruner
Burlington Central A unanimous All-Big Northern Conference selection, Gruner was another junior who helped fuel the Rockets' run to a third-place finish in Class 3A. Taking on the catching duties, Gruner hit .341 with 24 RBIs. She also had a .991 fielding percentage for the BNC East champs.
Brandi Hernandez
Elgin The junior shortstop hit .340 to help her earn All-Upstate Eight Conference honors. She also stole 18 bases at the leadoff spot for the Maroons, who finished 9-23. Hernandez also scored 27 runs and looks to be one of the top seniors in the area next season.
Elizabeth Kay
Bartlett
One of the most complete players Bartlett softball has ever seen, Kay led the Hawks in batting average (.392), runs (32), hits (49), doubles (12), triples (4), stolen bases (10) and on-base percentage (.521). The senior catcher and All-Upstate Eight Conference honoree who is headed to Illinois State also helped out in the circle this year as the team's No. 2 pitcher and went 4-3 with a 2.40 ERA while also playing outfield.
Jami Miller
Genoa-Kingston The senior, was one of the most dominant players in the Big Northern Conference. She hit .495, including a .692 average in BNC play. She had five home runs and 23 RBIs for the Cogs, who finished their season at 23-7.
Jenna Mychko
Huntley The junior All-Fox Valley Conference honoree batted .475 in the No. 3 spot with a .650 slugging percentage. The University of Illinois-bound catcher also had 57 hits and three home runs while finishing with a .991 fielding percentage for the Red Raiders, who captured their second consecutive regional title.
Kayla Oranger
Burlington Central The four-year senior starter once again provided a spark at leadoff and a reliable presence at shortstop for the Rockets. The Texas-El Paso recruit hit .364 with a .422 on-base percentage. She also collected 38 stolen bases on the year and ends her career with the school record for stolen bases (159), hits (212) and runs scored (177). Helped Central to a third-place finish in Class 3A.
Kimberly Pierce
South Elgin The senior standout and two-time Courier-News Player of the Year led the area with a .547 batting average. Pierce, who will be playing for Indiana State University next season, had seven home runs, a .603 on-base percentage, .906 slugging percentage and also had 11 stolen bases in 12 attempts. The unanimous All-Upstate Eight Conference center fielder also collected a team-high 47 runs scored, 58 hits and 43 RBIs for the Storm, which finished 23-13 with a regional title.
Brittany Priest
Burlington Central A four-year starter, Priest was flawless at first base. She ended her season with a 1.000 fielding percentage as she started in all 32 games. Priest, who will attend Illinois State University, also hit .387, good enough for second on the team. The All-Big Northern Conference choice had 36 hits and 35 runs scored with just nine strikeouts.
Rebecca Reinbold
St. Charles East The senior unanimous All-Upstate Eight Conference honoree tied for a team-best .357 batting average for the Saints, who finished second in the balanced UEC. She had a team-high 40 hits, including 10 doubles, scored 25 runs and drove in 20.
Megan Roadcap
Hampshire In her second season with the Whip-Purs after transferring from Pennsylvania, the senior shortstop put up more eye-opening numbers. She hit .418 and had a .608 on-base percentage. A unanimous All-Big Northern Conference selection, Roadcap also had 12 doubles and 25 RBIs.
Taylor Russell
St. Charles North
Russell made her presence felt in the lineup last season and continued her surge this year as a sophomore by compiling a .359 batting average and a team-high 13 stolen bases. The All-Upstate Eight Conference choice also had a team-high 46 hits. Her defense at third base was just as important as she compiled a .942 fielding percentage, helping the North Stars to their first-ever UEC title.
Ashley Scheffler
Burlington Central The junior led the Rockets in batting average (.400) and on-base percentage (.474). She started in all 32 games and carried a .917 fielding percentage at third base. The All-BNC selection also had 25 RBIs and 31 runs scored for the Class 3A third-place finishers.
Mackenzie Scott
Burlington Central The 2009 Courier-News Pitcher of the Year was nothing short of dominant. A four-year starter, she started 24 games and compiled a 21-3 record in 143 innings pitched. She struck out an area-high 300 batters and averaged 14.69 strikeouts per game. Scott, who will play for Elgin Community College, also registered 10 shutouts and 14 complete games. In seven postseason games, she allowed one run, 13 hits and struck out 88 batters. The All-Big Northern Conference honoree batted .356 and had the game-winning double in a State Finals game against Glenbard South.
Ashley Seering
St. Charles North One of eight sophomore starters, the All-Upstate Eight Conference selection did just about everything right. She had a team-high .378 batting average, which included 45 hits and nine doubles. She also recorded a team-high 29 RBIs and four home runs. She was most confident at the plate toward the end of the season and had some big his for North, which took home a Class 4A regional title.
Pam Sommer
St. Charles East The senior outfielder had a team-high .426 on-base percentage. The All-Upstate Eight Conference selection batted .357 with 23 runs scored and 30 hits.
Jenna Teson
Jacobs Just a sophomore, Teson stepped up at the shortstop position and helped the Golden Eagles to a 20-13 season. She hit .475 with 20 stolen bases at the leadoff spot and had a .523 on-base percentage to garner All-Fox Valley Conference honors.
Lauren Vitiello
South Elgin
The senior first baseman enjoyed her finest season with the Storm. She hit .453 with 15 doubles and 39 RBIs. She had a .482 on-base percentage and .811 slugging percentage. The All-Upstate Eight Conference selection also logged 49.2 innings in the pitching circle.
Corinne Wimmer
Larkin Wimmer was a breath of fresh air for a struggling Royals team. The sophomore shortstop garnered All-Upstate Eight Conference honors by compiling a team-high .422 batting average with a .505 on-base percentage. She struck out just seven times in 107 at-bats and had 12 stolen bases at the leadoff spot.
