Opening of new hospital delayed?

September 27, 2009

They say that Sherman Hospital's opening is going to be delayed because the whole venting system in their building has not been given a permit that has to be redone. I was wondering, how much does it cost to have a whole venting system redone in a new building and how much extra is Sherman Hospital going to be paying? Is the city of Elgin going to be helping them in this payment? As I understand it, they don't even have enough money to finish off the construction. And where is Provena in all this? Do they just go out of business next to this big new hospital?

Answer: As with any large construction project, we have faced issues, Michelle Howe, hospital spokeswoman said. "We have identified solutions for all of the issues we have faced so far and are planning on opening the new Sherman on Dec. 15," she said. "The city of Elgin has no role in paying for the new Sherman; Sherman is paying and has had all the financing it needs in the bank since the fall of 2007."
