Briefs: Group to screen film in Elgin

Fox Valley Citizens for Peace & Justice will show Robert Greenwald's film "Rethinking Afghanistan" at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren, 783 W. Highland Ave., Elgin. Elgin: Trunk-or-Treat slated for church
Church in the Word, 430 Airport Road, Elgin, will host a free Trunk or Treat in its parking lot from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday for local residents. The event will feature free food and drinks, inflatables, crafts, and candy handed out from dozens of decorated trunks, all in a safe environment for kids. East Dundee: Pumpkin contest Saturday
The Dundee Township Visitor's Center, 319 N. River St., East Dundee, will host its 11th annual Great Pumpkin Contest Saturday. Deadline for entry is noon Saturday; judging will commence at noon for the Largest Pumpkin (by weight) and the Best Decorated or Carved Pumpkin. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded for each category. Prizes include more than $1,000 worth of merchandise and gift certificates from area merchants and restaurants. There is no fee to enter. Entries may be dropped of between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday. Saturday also marks the last day of the season for the Old Dundee Farmer's Market, which will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the depot grounds. The market features locally grown flowers, produce, and honey, plus homemade soaps and baked goods, and a flea market with more than 40 vendors each week. For more information, call 847-426-2255.
Elgin: Campground to close for season
Paul Wolff Campground, 38W235 Big Timber Road, Elgin, located within Burnidge Forest Preserve, will close for the season at noon Sunday. The campground contains 48 vehicle camp sites with 50-amp electrical service, as well as 18 primitive, wooded sites for tent camping. Daily fees are $15 for Kane County residents and $25 for non-residents. Primitive/non-electric camp sites are $10 per day for residents, $15 for nonresidents. All camp sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis; reservations are not taken. Hampshire: Snowmobile groups to hold meetings
The monthly meeting of The Hampshire White Riders Snowmobile Club will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Corkshire Pub, 172 S. State St., Hampshire, in the lower level meeting room. The monthly meeting of Region #5 of The Illinois Association of Snowmobile Clubs will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, also at Corkshire Pub.
Fox Valley: Dog show coming to fairgrounds
Fox Valley Dog Training Club will host its 58th annual Obedience Trial and fourth annual Rally Trial at Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. Spectators are welcome to watch many breeds of dogs competing at the three main levels of obedience and three levels of rally. Admission to the event is free. Food will be available.
