D300 removes Dzialo as Jacobs coach

October 28, 2009

ALGONQUIN -- Jacobs High School coach Jim Dzialo is no stranger to being ejected.

Earlier this year, he was ejected from a boys soccer game, according to Community Unit School District 300 Superintendent Ken Arndt. And Monday night, he was ejected from his position coaching both boys and girls soccer teams at Jacobs.

"Some of his coaching practices were a concern to the board," Arndt said.

In a closed session, the D300 board of education voted 6-0 to fire Dzialo. Trustee Anne Miller was not present at the Monday night meeting to vote.

The superintendent cited Dzialo's "inappropriate coaching for the boys soccer team this year." In addition to being thrown out of one game, he also had the boys wrestle for a position on the soccer team in a tournament game against Crystal Lake South, according to Arndt.

The school board voted Monday because trustees wanted to take action before girls soccer season starts in spring 2010, the superintendent said.

Dzialo could not be reached for comment.
