Sleepy Hollow woman drowns in pool
Anna Schneider drowned in the outdoor pool at her home on Katrina Drive in Sleepy Hollow. Her body was found in the pool about 4:55 a.m. Saturday, according to reports.

13-year-old boy killed, 4 hurt in crash
A 13-year-old boy is reportedly dead and four other people were injured in a Saturday night rollover crash near Hanover Park. About 6 p.m., a GMC Safari westbound on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway near Lake Street in Hanover Park lost control, rolled over and ended up in a ditch, according to Illinois State Police Elgin District Master Sgt. Chris Melvin.
Police Report: Man struck in head with bottle
Josette Green-Hicks, 38, of Chicago, was charged with three felony counts after hitting a man in the head with a bottle at about 2:45 a.m. Friday. The man had offered Green-Hicks a ride from the 400 block of Summit Street to a train station, and she hit him with the bottle when he refused to take her to Chicago, according to police. He was taken to a hospital for stitches. She was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of armed violence.

Motorists driving through Elgin Wednesday night might want to be on their best behavior as local and state police plan roadside safety checks including checking for valid driver's licenses and proof of insurance.
Police Report: Vaccuum cleaner theft in Elgin
Police said they arrested Brian Frazier, 40, and Craig Tankson, 26, at 6:02 p.m. Tuesday at Meijer, 815 S. Randall Road, Elgin, for stealing vacuum cleaners from the store.

Irma Favela, 45, of the 2000 block of Elgin, was arrested Monday morning at the Target store, 530 Randall Road, in the theft of about $390 worth of merchandise, including a phone, two MP3 players and some books, authorities said. She was charged Tuesday with retail theft, a Class 3 felony.

Marijuana-growing operation shut down
A northwest suburban man was charged Friday after police allegedly found a marijuana-growing operation in his home. Salvatore Scianna, 51, of 1106 Pine St. in Lake in the Hills, was charged with unlawful production of cannabis sativa plants, unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a release from the McHenry County Sheriff's office.

Pizza delivery woman's killer gets 81 years in prison
A Sandwich resident was sentenced to 81 years in prison Monday in the 2006 murder of a St. Charles pizza delivery woman. Bradley M. Justice, 31, was sentenced by DuPage County Judge Peter Dockery on charges of first degree murder and armed robbery. Justice pleaded guilty to the charges on April 16.

Man gets 29 years in St. Charles murder
Arthur Manning was sentenced Thursday to 29 years in prison for the September 2008 stabbing death of Naromi Mannery, a St. Charles carnival worker. Judge Timothy Q. Sheldon, in handing out the maximum sentence available, said while the 58-year-old Manning expressed remorse for the murder, he failed to understand he was responsible for elevating a fight between himself and victim Naromi Mannery into murder.

Teen faces 10 years for forging grandma's signature
An Elgin man was arrested Tuesday after police said he forged more than $1,600 of his grandmother's checks. Jeffrey Bradley, 18, of the 300 block of Hickory Lane, was charged Wednesday with four counts of forgery, Class 3 felonies, for cashing four of her personal checks totaling $1,640.66 at Elgin State Bank, according to police.

Seniors cool off at ECC, kids at Festival Park
It was back to school for about 30 Elgin seniors Wednesday morning. Residents of Burnham Manor at 1550 Fleetwood Drive sat in the lobby at nearby Elgin Community College, chatting and waiting for a lunch provided by an Elgin church after power problems forced the evacuation of the assisted living facility.
More details emerge in raid on Elgin home
Three men and a juvenile have been charged in connection with a police raid Tuesday evening on a near-downtown home with a history of drug activity. Police said the four males arrested all resided at the house, 218 Michigan St., which was raided by at least 15 officers.

A resident in the 700 block of Hill Avenue reported someone broke into his 1990 Honda overnight Saturday and took the radio/CD player. Two Ohio residents reported that while they were eating at Jimmy's Charhouse, 2290 Point Blvd., on Saturday afternoon, someone broke a window on their Jeep Cherokee and took a GPS unit, a purse and a plastic bag containing cash.

C'ville man charged with blaming family in threats
A Carpentersville man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly making threatening calls to police — and coercing his 12-year-old son into implicating himself in the crime. Rodney Coleman, 31, of the 100 block of Hickory Court, was charged Wednesday with intimidation and threatening a public official, each a Class 3 felony, and disorderly conduct and obstructing justice, each a Class 4 felony.
W. Dundee police get green light for hybrid squad
West Dundee's Police Department will try riding in a greener vehicle. The village board this week approved the purchase of a new hybrid vehicle for the department. By approving the purchase, the village will receive a grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Communication Authority, worth 75 percent of the vehicle's cost.

Man charged with plot to kill wife with toxin
A Lake in the Hills man who pleaded not guilty last summer to purchasing a deadly puffer fish toxin to use as a weapon was charged Tuesday with buying the poison as part of a plot to kill his wife. In U.S. District Court in Rockford on Tuesday, a federal grand jury returned a 16-count superseding indictment against Edward Bachner IV, formerly of Lake in the Hills, according to the U.S. Attorney's Ooffice.

South Elgin man arrested on three drug charges
A South Elgin man was arrested Tuesday after he tried to sell cocaine to an undercover police officer, police said. Jeffrey S. Hamby, 45, was taken into custody about 5 p.m. that day in the 500 block of Hobart Drive. He was charged Wednesday with unlawful possession with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of a school, a Class X felony; unlawful possession of a substance with intent to deliver, a Class 1 felony; and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.

Two drivers in critical condition after crash
Three people were hurt — two of them critically — in a three-vehicle crash Monday night at Randall and Hopps roads. Two of the drivers, Kathleen Grooms, 45, and Jaclyn Jankiewicz, 21, both of South Elgin, were taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and both were later flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where they were listed in critical condition.

West Chicago teen killed in St. Charles crash
Update: A West Chicago teen was killed Sunday morning when the car he was riding in smashed into a tree in St. Charles. The front seat passenger, Cameron Godee, 18, 2800 block of Mansfield Court, was pronounced dead at the scene, shortly after a Ford Explorer hit a tree in the 3100 block of Royal Fox Drive, St. Charles police said.

Resisting, assault: Bartlett police charged Brian W. Matousek, 30, of the 200 block of Lamont Parkway in Bartlett, with aggravated assault and resisting a peace officer after an incident Monday.

Benjamin Tamayo, 40, of the 300 block of Raymond Street, was sentenced to six years in prison for convictions of on one count each of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and unlawful sale of a firearm.

Two charged in Elgin shootings
Two men have been charged in connection with a pair of shootings that occurred just a few hours apart on Thursday night. Victor Garcia, 17, of 437 Fremont St., Elgin, was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and having no firearms owners identification in what police have determined to be a gang-motivated shooting of an 18-year-old woman in a driveway at 670 Jefferson St.

A Chicago man who police found with a gunshot wound in front of Elgin City Hall has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and no firearm owner's identification after he shot himself and then reported he had been shot by someone else, police said.

Update: Elgin police say a man with a gunshot wound to the leg who was found Thursday evening in front City Hall, just across the street from the Elgin Law Enforcement Facility, apparently shot himself by accident. “It appears he had (the gun) in his pocket and it went off,” said Elgin police Lt. Glenn Theriault. The man, a Chicago resident in his 20s, was taken to Sherman Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
3 sought after woman shot in mouth in Elgin
Elgin police are investigating Thursday night's second shooting in which a woman was shot in the mouth while sitting in a car on Jefferson Avenue. Police were seeking three suspects in the violence, which occurred shortly after 10 p.m.

Two men were taken into custody Tuesday night after selling cocaine to undercover police officers, authorities said. Anthony Singleton and Reynaldo Perez were accomplices in several drug transactions prior to their arrest, police said.

Fire guts Elgin home; dog, ferret saved
Fire gutted the ranch-style home at in the 600 block of Linden Avenue early Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters were called to the home, which is not far from Lords Park, shortly before 1 p.m. Five children and two adults were in the house at the time but there were no injuries. Firefigthers also rescued a dog and a ferret from the blaze.

Elgin police were called Monday evening to an apartment in the 400 block of Stella Street after receiving reports of a break-in, the second at that location in the past five days.
