Police Report: LITH man dead in Wisconsin

• LITH man dead in lake: A Lake in the Hills man who was reported missing Monday evening was found dead Wednesday in a Wisconsin lake, authorities said. Town of Linn police said they received a report about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday of an abandoned vehicle at the Linn Pier boat launch. Further investigation indicated that the owner of the car, Arthur Staron, 42, of Lake in the Hills, had been reported missing and was believed to be depressed, police said. About 1 p.m. Wednesday, rescue boat teams were dispatched to the Linn Pier area on Geneva Lake and began to search for Staron. At about 2 p.m., two fishermen discovered Staron's body about 50 feet off the end of the pier in 10 feet of water, a report said. Police said they do not suspect foul play.

• Credit card fraud: Samantha M. Cuevas, 22, of 9 Oakcrest Drive, was arrested Thursday on felony charges of forgery and unlawful use of a credit card. Cuevas is accused of using another person's credit card Oct. 6 to buy miscellaneous items worth less than $300 in total, plus $179.73 worth of gasoline. Her bail was set at $8,000 and she is to appear in court Nov. 9.

• Pedestrian hit by car: Kristin K. Dwyer, 26, of 8N840 Hopps Road, Elgin, was charged with DUI Thursday after she allegedly struck a pedestrian with her vehicle, police said. Dwyer is accused of hitting a 23-year-old Hanover Park man about 3:45 a.m. Thursday as he was walking across the parking lot of a nightclub in the 1100 block of West Lake Street (Route 20), a report said. The pedestrian was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment of minor injuries. Dwyer was charged with misdemeanor DUI and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, a report said. She was released on a $3,000 recognizance bond and is to appear in court Nov. 24.

• Two charged with theft: A police officer Wednesday spotted two men attempting to steal a large roll of insulating material near the Hemmens Cultural Center, police said. James L. Prow, 48, and Tommy M. McBurney, 54, both homeless Elgin residents, were charged each with felony theft for allegedly trying to take the 4-foot-long, 12-inch-round roll of material, which had been placed there for use in constructing the city's ice rink, police said. The material was worth about $500. McBurney's bail was set at $8,000. Prow was given a $5,000 personal recognizance bail. McBurney and Prow are to appear in court Nov. 9.
