Algonquin teen charged with murder of father
Update: A 16-year-old boy was charged with murder in the shooting death of his father Monday night inside their Algonquin home, authorities said. Bail was set at $2.5 million this morning for David Szalonek, 16, of 1461 Westbourne, charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Brian D. Szalonek, David's father, according to Algonquin police.


Morning snow no problem for drivers
The early-morning snow fall isn't giving drivers across the Elgin area too much trouble, officials report. "Just an handful of crashes, but no major injuries and no road closures," said Elgin police spokesman Jeff Swoboda about 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Update: The deputy coroner who took the Kathleen Savio death call testified in a Will County courtroom today that state police Crime Scene Investigator Robert Deel told him there was nothing "we need to be looking for here," prompting him to abandon the suspicious death protocol.

Opponents of the proposed relocation of Navistar International Corp. to Lisle continued this week to press the DuPage County Board to revoke its approval of the project. DuPage activates emergency operations center
The DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will monitor the incoming winter storm and assist local municipalities through its Emergency Operations Center, activated at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
