No bond reduction for babysitter charged in death

November 6, 2009

ST. CHARLES — Bail will remain at $100,000 for a Carpentersville babysitter charged in connection with the death of an 8-month-old boy left under a blanket for several hours.

Kane County Circuit Court Associate Judge T. Jordan Gallagher Thursday denied a request to have the bail of Deanna L. Williams, 44, of the 3800 block of Parsons Road, reduced to $25,000.

Last week, a grand jury indicted Williams on charges of involuntary manslaughter, as well as two felony and misdemeanor counts of endangering the life of health of a child.

The indictment stated Williams was "acting in a reckless manner" and that she "unintentionally killed" the boy while babysitting him out of her home April 22.

According to reports, Williams allegedly left the child unattended under a blanket for approximately five hours.

By the time the boy was checked, he was reported to have been unresponsive and that his temperature was elevated. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died of hyperthermia, according to authorities.

Thursday's ruling means Williams must still pay a minimum of $10,000 to be released from Kane County Jail, where she has remained in custody since last Friday.

Williams' next court appearance has been set for Nov. 13.
