Bartlett police arrest suspect in stabbing

May 9, 2008

BARTLETT -- A Cook County judge today set bail at $150,000 for a Schaumburg man charged with home invasion and aggravated battery in connection with a stabbing Sunday night.

Bartlett police said they arrested Arturo Amezquita, 21, of 1149 Dickens Way, Schaumburg, on Sunday. Police and the Cook County State’s Attorney's Office charged him with the felony counts.

Police today transported Amezquita to the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows, where the judge set bail and ordered Amezquita to appear in court again on June 6.

At about 10 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 500 block of Deere Park Circle for a report of someone being stabbed. Officers learned that Amezquita allegedly broke into an apartment and stabbed someone with a knife.

Police said the adult victim struggled with Amezquita and escaped along with three other adults in the apartment. Police found Amezquita still inside the apartment and arrested him.

The Bartlett Fire Protection District transported the victim to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates and he was released the next day. Amezquita also was transported to St. Alexius Mental Health Services for evaluation.

Police said they believe it was a random attack and have not found a link between the family and Amezquita. Police are continuing their investigation.
