Obama backing Foster in TV spot

February 15, 2008

Congressional candidate Bill Foster is touting the support of one of the biggest Democrats of them all -- presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, Foster's campaign said an upcoming TV ad features the Illinois senator saying Foster can "deliver change" in Congress.

"Voters want a positive choice for change," Foster said. "Barack and I offer that kind of change, and I am thrilled he has cut a TV ad for my campaign."

In a press release, Foster compared his own campaign with Obama's, saying both men want to bring the troops home from Iraq "safely and responsibly," and that both want to improve the economy and make health care more affordable.

Foster's announcement comes one day after his opponent in the March 8 special election, Jim Oberweis, announced a big gun of his own. Republican presidential front-runner John McCain will visit the Fox Valley on Wednesday, attending an Oberweis fundraiser in Sugar Grove.

The special election will determine which of the two candidates will fill retired Congressman Dennis Hastert's seat in the 14th District until the end of the year. A separate election in November will decide who will replace Hastert in January, serving a full two-year term.

Oberweis won both the regular and special primary elections for the Republicans.

But although Democratic candidate John Laesch has conceded to Foster in the special election, he has not done so for the November general election.
