Winning lottery ticket sold in West Dundee

November 12, 2009

WEST DUNDEE — It'll be a very merry holiday season for someone who bought a winning Mega Millions lottery ticket, worth $250,000, at a West Dundee gas station.

The $77 million jackpot was split by players from New Jersey and California, but a winning second place ticket was sold at the Speedway gas station located on the corner of North Eighth Street and Route 31, lottery officials said Wednesday.

No one had come forward to claim the prize as of Wednesday afternoon, officials said. Employees at the gas station had no comment. The gas station will collects 1 percent of the winnings, or $2,500, officials said.

The winning numbers were 8, 21, 29, 34, and 37 with a Mega Ball number of 15. Officials said the winner matched all five numbers but missed the Mega Ball.

Mega Millions is a multi-state game that allows jackpots to roll to higher levels at a faster rate, according to an Illinois State Lottery press release. Tickets are sold in California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Illinois averages about four winners a month throughout the state.

The next drawing will take place Friday, with a $12 million jackpot.
