Area road construction roundup

November 8, 2009

Roadwork continues at an almost summer-like pace in several areas of the Fox Valley. Here's a roundup of some of the work slated over the next few weeks.

Elgin
Drivers traveling on Douglas Avenue in downtown Elgin and Summit Street on the northeast side will experience delays and lane closures this week due to paving.

Work to pave Douglas began Wednesday, according to a sign posted at Kimball Street and Douglas Avenue. Paving on Summit Street from Dundee Avenue near the McDonald's restaurant to Waverly Drive near the 7-Eleven store began Thursday, according to a sign posted at Summit Street and Dundee Avenue. Officials from the city of Elgin Engineering Department could not be reached for information as to when the road work is expected to wrap up.

West Dundee
Public Works personnel will continue working with a private contractor today to resurface Grande Point and Miller subdivisions, according to Public Works Director Rich Babica.

Streets affected include Oak Drive, Walnut Drive, Grande Point Boulevard, Acorn Court, Acorn Drive, Karen Drive, Ash Drive, Spruce Drive and Maple Circle. Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures, Babica said. He also reminds drivers that construction on Route 31 between Boncosky Road and Toll Gate Road continues.

Lake in the Hills
Traffic flow will change in the construction zone on Pyott Road near the Lake in the Hills Airport this week.

Beginning Monday, northbound lanes will be diverted onto the new road while southbound traffic will continue in the existing lanes. Drivers traveling north and accessing businesses along the existing section of Pyott Road should use the new crossover roads which connect the new and existing roadways.

The change in traffic flow is necessary, the village reports, to pave the new southbound lane where it connects to the existing road.

The village asks drivers to slow down and drive cautiously as work crews will be out. The entire Pyott Road project is scheduled to be complete in December.

Bartlett
Beginning Nov. 16, Newport Boulevard will be limited to one lane in each direction from Devon Avenue to Stearns Road due to roadway repairs, police report. The construction work is expected to be finished by Nov. 24.
