Elgin man convicted on sex, drug charges

November 5, 2009

EUGENE, Ore. -- An Illinois man who hired a prostitute who turned out to be 15 has been sentenced to 50 days in jail.

James Matthew Dublin of Elgin, Ill., pleaded guilty to sex and drug charges and was sentenced Tuesday in Lane County Circuit Court. He also must serve five years on probation and register as a sex offender.

His attorney said the 42-year-old Dublin had responded to an online advertisement for a woman who presented herself as a 19-year-old prostitute last spring when he was on a business trip.

But prosecutors said Dublin knew the girl was much younger as soon as he met her.

Investigators said Dublin was arrested after they got a tip from the girl's mother that she'd seen Internet ads promoting her runaway daughter as a prostitute.
