Library will host Nov. 23 'Sycamore Thanksgiving'

SYCAMORE -- While Halloween and Christmas usually receive the most attention during the fall and winter seasons, Thanksgiving Day in Sycamore this year will receive its share of the spotlight.

"A Sycamore Thanksgiving" is slated for 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at the Sycamore Library, 103 E. State St.

Larry Zevnik, head of adult services at the library, and Daniel Sherrill, events coordinator at Borders Bookstore in DeKalb, came before the Sycamore City Council this week to announce the event and invite council members to attend.

"This event will be the only thing going between the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival and Christmas," Zevnik said. "Thanksgiving is actually my favorite holiday. It's like Christmas without the hassle."

Zevnik added that "A Sycamore Thanksgiving" will be a drop-in event. People are not obligated to arrive exactly at 5 p.m. or stay until 8:30 p.m.

"We want to make this an annual event," Zevnik said.

"There will be six or seven live music groups and six different authors who will give readings," Sherrill said. "Maurices of DeKalb will also present a fashion show."

The names of the music groups and authors who will attend the event will be announced at a later date.

A microphone will be available for people to state what they are thankful for during the Thanksgiving season.
