Sexual assault suspect sought by Elgin police

ELGIN — Police have asked the for the public's help in finding a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman last week on the city's west side.

Police said the incident occurred in the 1600 block of Larkin Avenue around 3 a.m. Friday.

A man reportedly armed with a sharp instrument approached the victim from behind and forced her into his vehicle before driving a short distance where the sexual assault took place.

The suspect was described as black, in his 30s, and approximately 6 feet tall with a medium build and a mustache. He was seen driving a red, older model cargo van with a sliding door on the passenger side and windows on its back doors.

Police said the victim, identified as a woman in her 30s, sustained minor injuries. She was treated at Sherman Hospital in Elgin and has since been released.
