Bartlett: Police promoted
On Friday, the Bartlett Police Department celebrated the promotions of Commander Patrick Ullrich to deputy chief, Sgt. Michael McGuigan to commander and Officer Michael Rummell to sergeant. Ullrich has been with the department for 11 years. He served as a crime prevention officer, juvenile officer, DARE instructor, truck enforcement officer, breathalyzer operator and an emergency vehicle operator's course instructor. He holds a bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration from Western Illinois University and graduated from the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police & Command. Ullrich will assume the command of the administrative division in charge of the records section, property control, planning & research, fleet maintenance, and emergency management. McGuigan has been with the department for 13 years. He served as a Breathalyzer operator, tactical medical officer, SPEAR team member and CPR/AED Instructor. He received Life Saving Awards in August 1998 and August 2002. McGuigan will be assigned to the patrol section as one of the two patrol commanders. Rummell has been with the department for 12 years. Open registration for summer and fall credit classes at Elgin Community College continues. Summer classes begin the weeks of June 29 and July 13. Fall 16-week classes begin the week of Aug. 24; 12-week classes begin the week of Sept. 21; and eight-week classes begin the week of Oct. 19. Early registration is advised to get the best selection of courses and times. Students with an ECC identification number can register online at www.elgin.edu/accessecc. Otherwise, registration may be made in person at the Registration Center at the Main Campus located on the first floor of the Student Resource Center in Room 165, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The Registration Center is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The college is closed Fridays through Aug. 7.Hampshire: Fire, EMS to host golf fundraiser
The Hampshire Fire & EMS Association will host its first golf outing fundraiser beginning at noon on Friday, July 24, at the Marengo Ridge golf course at 9508 Harmony Hill Road, Marengo. The association is seeking to raise enough money to purchase the interactive patient simulator. The training system is designed to enhance skills of EMS responders. There will be a raffle and silent auction after the golf outing. The association is a tax-exempt entity associated with the Hampshire Fire Protection District. The Randall Oaks Barnyard Zoo, 1180 N. Randall Road, is seeking volunteers to become docents and serve as an educational link between zoo visitors and the animals. Docents conduct tours for families, school groups and other types of zoo visitors. They must be at least 16-years-old and complete an extensive training program, then commit to one year of service and work at least 30 hours during that time. Zoo docents receive a free yearly family zoo pass, as well as a $50 credit toward any Randall Oaks Barnyard Zoo programs and classes. Midwest Museum of Natural History, 425 W. State, is hosting summer classes beginning with "Microscope Miniworld" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 10. Young investigators will learn the proper use of a microscope as they investigate the world unseen by the naked eye. The cost is $10 for children age 9 and older and $15 for younger children with an adult companion. Other summer classes include "Fossil Dig" on Saturday, July 11 and Saturday, Aug. 8. "Exhibit Building" will be held on July 21-22 and lets children learn how museum exhibits are built. Participants receive a hands-on lesson in anatomy through dissection in "Shark Dissection" on July 31. Each participant will work on their own dogfish shark specimen.
