Fideliter members prep for Charity Ball

November 1, 2009

Members of the Fideliter Club of Elgin are putting the finishing touches on their plans for their 121st annual Charity Ball on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Prairie Lodge at Sun City in Huntley.

Pat Szpekowski, president of PmS Advertising Inc. of Carpentersville, is first vice president and this year's ball chair. "Our annual charity ball serves as the Fideliter Club's major fundraising project to benefit many area not-for-profit service agencies who serve the needs of women and children," Szpekowski said. "I am honored to lead and continue this longstanding Elgin tradition."

These donations are possible because of the generosity of local individuals and businesses.

For reservations and more information, call Brenda Morrissy at 847-888-9303.

Donor Club of Elgin hosted Rinella at tea

More than 350 enthusiastic women and a few gentlemen enjoyed the afternoon at the First United Methodist Church of Elgin, 216 E. Highland Ave., on Oct. 1 for the Donor Club of Elgin's 23rd annual tea. Jacque Flood, past president of the Donor Club, welcomed guests and members and then introduced guest reviewer Barbara Rinella, who was wearing an Andrew Jackson wig and a ruffled blouse accessorized with $20 bills, which have an image of Andrew Jackson engraved on them.

Reading this year's selection, "The American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House" by Jon Meacham, Rinella kept her audience enchanted as she portrayed how he was "beloved and hated, venerated and reviled -- fighting his way to the pinnacle of power."

Guests enjoyed tea cookies, homemade breads and peanut brittle. Each guest received a gently used book while enjoying the raffle.

The Donor Club was formed in 1932 and continues to give to many deserving groups, including the Elgin Day Care Center.

All of the monies raised are donated to help women and children in need in the Fox Valley area.

For more information about the Donor Club, call President Deanna Young at 847-741-0923.
